A Brief History Of Mexican Tequila

Most countries have their signature brewed alcohol. People would study and experiment with local plants and get exhausted. It is a trial and error process, just like vodka fermented from potatoes, beer from barley and wine from grapes.

Mexico started distilling alcohol from the blue agave plant.

It’s a plant that principally grows in the mountains of Mexico encircling the city of Tequila ( the actual name of the town). Indian drawings drinking tequila has been depicted in AD200.

Mexicans recognise that an alcoholic blue agave drink existed way before the Spaniards came in Mexico. The Mexican law has agreed that it can only be called tequila from one of the five specific states in Mexico. Moreover, it has been acknowledged by international law and granted Mexico to use the word tequila exclusively.
